Moving into a senior living community is a major life transition. There is often excitement about new opportunities and friendships. There can also be uncertainty as residents adjust to a new home and routine.
One of the most valuable resources we have during that transition is our Resident Ambassador program. Resident Ambassadors help create connections and offer encouragement. They also provide peer-to-peer support that can make a new resident feel welcome from day one.
Their willingness to reach out matters. They share their experiences and invite others into community life. In doing so, they help turn neighbors into friends and a community into home.
As Resident Services Director at Pinnacle Groves Senior Living, I have seen firsthand the difference these resident leaders make. They help new residents feel comfortable, connected, and engaged.
A successful move-in experience begins with communication and preparation. Once a new resident has deposited, the Sales Team shares helpful information with Resident Services. This includes contact information and an estimated move-in time. From there, the Resident Services Director and Welcome Committee begin the move-in checklist.
The goal is for each new resident to feel informed, welcomed, and supported. Ideally, they know who to turn to when questions come up. They have made at least one friend. They also feel comfortable attending at least one event each week.
Resident Ambassadors help make that welcome personal. They prepare a basket for the new resident. They often set up a phone call to learn about the resident’s interests. A committee member on each floor or section also adds support. It gives new residents a nearby neighbor who has volunteered to welcome them.
Some of the most meaningful welcomes are simple and personal. Sharing meals can make a difference. So can event invitations and “getting to know you” questions. These gestures help turn an unfamiliar place into a friendlier one.
One meaningful example happened during an initial tour. Margaret, one of the ambassadors, learned about a prospective resident. She made a point to sit down with the resident and their family. She offered a warm conversation and honest insight from a resident’s perspective. That connection helped solidify their decision to move to Pinnacle Groves.

Residents often respond quickly to other residents because they see their peers participating. They realize community life may feel accessible to them, too. A fellow resident can make an invitation feel less formal. It can also feel more natural.
Resident Ambassadors help shape the culture of the community by being available beyond typical work hours. New residents benefit from having someone nearby with shared interests. They also appreciate having someone of a similar age to turn to during the day. Through kindness, encouragement, and friendly faces, ambassadors help residents feel at home.
Resident Ambassadors do far more than welcome new residents. They help build the culture of our community. Through kindness, friendship, and a willingness to include others, they create an environment where people feel seen, valued, and connected.
The move-in process may only last a few days. The relationships formed during that time can have a lasting impact. We are grateful for the Resident Ambassadors who help make our community a place where every resident feels like they belong.
